Town of Cuenca, part of UNESCO World’s Cultural Heritage Sites

Situated in Cuenca, third city in importance in Ecuador and one of UNESCO World’s Cultural Heritage Sites, Artesa was founded in 1975. Today, it boasts about sixty employees, principally artists and artisans. Its manufacturing method is mostly traditional and all steps of the process are realized manually in the workshop: choice and mixing of clays coming from the region, drying, forming, etching, decorating, cooking, quality control and packaging. Each piece is shaped on a potter’s wheel, in a mould or by hand, fired a first time at 1180 ℃, etched and painted by hand, fired a second time at 1120 ℃ and finally inspected visually and through acoustic resonance testing.

Artesa adheres to the principles of social responsibility and equity and provides its employees with fair working conditions and a good working environment true to these principles.

Clay shaping by an Artesa artisan

In time, Artesa, our privileged supplier, will be joined by other creators in the arts of the table, notably an olive wood carving artisan of the French Alps.
